Galaktik Cancer Squad: Ghost light
27/08/13 || Cobal
You know what pisses me off these days? That current pretentious fixation for calling every and any album that has some songwriting above the average progressive. You know what pisses me off even more? When some bastard — I’m not certain who — calls progressive something that’s not even there!
Now, if we put that aside, “Ghost light” is a black metal record with a few non-black passages and twin-guitars here and there. Yes, it even resembles Maiden at times. Is that bad? No. Is that fantastic? Fuck no!
Okay, I can see that this guy Argwohn — bingo, it’s a one man band — tries to create a black sound of his own, and he does succeed at letting the listener breathe at times in between the most metal parts. In fact, that actually adds up for the amusement factor, and makes up for the low ferocity level in the songs. Now, if you ask me, he should go back to instrumental, by the by. No, instrumental is no synonym for progressive either.
6/10: Not bad, after all.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
